I will try and keep it short as I know I can be long winded....Our names are John and Dee and we are motorcycling fanatics....
We live in the Castle Rock area of Colorado and spend most of our weekends in the summer riding. I was an Army brat that saw the world from a window in Europe and always had a love affair with the open road and America, being a gypsy is just second nature moving from base to base. Now in my mid 40's I still haven't out grown my childhood view of the world and the inquisitive nature of what is around the next corner or hill.I grew up with a passion for bikes but it wasn't until I was 18 that I could afford my first bike and have had several since ranging from Dirt - Sport Bikes and Heavy Cruisers.
We spent the last six years helping Victory motorcycles create a local presence in Colorado through the Colorado Victory Riders Association Http://www.c-vra.com. We have ridden all the scenic highways in Colorado and then some including New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. Victory gave us a free ride in 2006 on the Kyle Petty Charity ride because of our work with the brand and that was a unique experience riding with 250 bikes across America from Oregon to South Carolina. We have made many friends along the way and is one of the many benefits we love about motorcycling.
We have a lot of paved roads still to cover but the one thing about all that pavement is the feeling we missed something along the way on our Victories....So in late 2008 we purchased two DRs and started to explore our local area. It didn't take long for us to out grow the back yard and begin to explore the hills of Rampart Range in early 2009. By mid 2009 we rode to Poncha Springs from Castle Rock and took 80% dirt to get there as we set up a base camp at one of the motels. From there we took in the back side of Old Monarch Pass, Pitkin, , Tin Cup, Buena Vista and Aspen and truly found ourselves in the back country where 70 miles of dirt roads with no signs of life beyond the barbed wire fences, forest roads and single track trails let us know someone was there before us. We also found that cattle like to bed down on roads as we banked a corned and almost had beef for breakfast..
We are members of ADVRider but its like being in a Mall or large Church you begin to get lost in the crowd so I went looking to see if there was a more localized forum of dual sport riders in my area and found this place. So first let me thank the guy or team of individuals for creating it and second thank those that participate on the forum for giving it a feeling of community and a voice. My hope is we get to meet you folks on at least one ride this year. For some of you we will ride to slow and for others we may ride to fast. Its our goal that we try and find a balance and have a great time at the end of the day sharing crab boiled over an open fire and a beer while talking about the days ride.
John
