Engine mods

Postby GregsDRZ400 » Fri Feb 05, 2010 12:29 pm

Not looking at anytime soon but here is my question. Is there an order in which you should do engine mods? As an example... Carb, big bore, cams??? Or does it matter?

What's your goal exactly?

More power? If so, it'll be loud, the two kinda go hand in hand. Exhaust & Carb first though. Cams and BB are really only worth it together.

My plan is to work with what I've got and as I need, upgrade the bike. I think I jumped the gun on the BB and Cams. What about carbs? Is there a better one than stock?

The Keihin FCR 39mm is the carb. Are you on ThumperTalk? That would be the first mod anyway. Then if you want more power get a good exhaust. THEN worry about motor mods.

The FCR would make the bike easier to jet and help with the slow throttle response the rest of the crap wont make enough of a difference to justify the expenditure IMO thats why I generally put on the noise maker, dothe free mods and get it jetted correctly and then call it good. When I had the motor done on the KTM I went with a high comp. piston and seriously could not feel any difference. Eddies 60hp DRZ's are awesome but the motor work is more than the bike costs.

Stock DR-Z is 33 hp.

MRD or Yosh Ti pipe plus 3x3 is ~35-38

Add FCR~40-42

Cams and BB ~50.

NO OTHER EXHAUST is worth the money. Either get a loud one that works, or stick with stock.

You have the carb. You'd be about the same spot with an uncorked stock exhaust.
